Jejunum is a part of the small bowel, located between the distal end of duodenum and the proximal part of ileum. The adult small intestine is about 6 meters long, and the jejunum forms a little less than half of the small intestine. The jejunum and the ileum are suspended by an extensive mesentery giving the bowel great mobility within the abdomen. The transition from jejunum to ileum is not marked by any specific anatomic structure. The diameter of jejunum, especially the proximal part, is larger than that of the distal ileum, and the wall of jejunum is thicker.
