About one third of all patients with Crohns disease have affection mainly of the small bowel. Small bowel disease can cause malabsorption, anemia due to continous blood loss through occult bleeding, stricturations and fistulaes.


Aphthoid lesions due to Crohns disease in the ileum

Small bowel affection is usually found by a xray contrast examination. By an endoscopic examination, enteroscopy, at least part of the small bowel can be examined. The new capsule endoscopy technique gives images from all parts of the small bowel, however, the images are not yet of a very good quality.
