The large bowel, colon, is 100 - 150 cm long and extends from the ileocaecal valve to the rectum. Colon can be divided into parts: caecum (with a diameter of about 8 cm), the ascending colon (between caecum and the hepatic flexure), transversum (between the hepatic and the splenic flexure), descending colon (between the splenic flexure and the proximal part of the sigmoid colon) and the sigmoid colon (with a diameter of 2 - 3 cm).
