Rectum
High resolution image: Endoscopic view of the rectum
Rectum starts at the rectosigmoid flexure and ends at the anal canal. It is 15 - 20 cm long and follows the curve of the sacrum.
The rectal wall has three valves, the Houston valves, known as the superior, middle and inferior rectal valve.
The distal part is known as the ampulla.
