![]() ![]() ![]() Hyperplastic (or metaplastic) polyps in the rectum is a very frequent finding especially in patients over 40 years of age. These polyps are small with a diameter of 2 - 5 millimeters, and they have about the same colour as the surrounding mucosa.
![]() ![]() ![]() These polyps are benign, they do not have any malignant potential and there is no need for any therapy. However, they should be biopsied, a small adenoma cannot be distinguished from a hyperplastic polyp on macroscopic means.
