Gastrolabis a medical research centre in Vasa, Finland, dedicated to endoscopic examinations of the digestive canal. The centre was founded in 1983.
The Gastrolab Home Pagewas initiated in the spring of 1996, with several important goals:* maintaining an endoscopic image gallery free to use for all interested health care personals * maintaining a gastroenterologic calendar and a gastroenterologic link collection including a nearly complete list of medical journals * maintaining contact information about support groups and associations all over the world * providing historical texts about gastroenterologic topics * providing information about gastrointestinal health care topics for the general public in Swedish and Finnish
We started on March 24, 1996 - quite a long time ago in the Internet context. In February 1999 we got our own domain name - www.gastrolab.net - making us easy to find. Since September 2003 there is also a mirror site www.gastrolab.info/index.htm, containing the basic gastrolab material and a growing video library.
Hans Bjorknasis the principal investigator at Gastrolab. He is a specialist in Internal Medicine and has been carrying out endoscopic research for over 20 years and has personally performed about 40.000 endoscopic examinations. He is the writer of a great number of papers mostly published in Scandinavian countries. His main tasks during recent years have been developing endoscopic image libraries and writing informative texts concerning gastrointestinal diseases indended for the general public.
