Barretīs oesophagus is a complication of chronic reflux disease, and the mucosa is sometimes ulcerated.

An oesophageal ulcer can be caused by chronic reflux. Some medicins can - if the tablet is taken without sufficient liquid - cause ulcers of the oesophagus.
