Accessory (Ectopic) Pancreas

Accessory Pancreas
This is a little accessory pancreas situated in the greater curvature of the antrum. In an x-ray examination this finding is impossible to differetiate from a polyp or a small carcinoma. In endoscopy, the finding is quite typical, and this is a very innocent finding without any clinical significans.

Accessory Pancreas
In the middle of the accessory pancreas a slight opening is seen. Probably some pancreatic juice could be collected from this opening.

Accessory Pancreas
Accessory or Ectopic pancreas Pancreatic tissue outside the normal pancreas. Ectopic pancreases can be found in the stomach, duodenum and ileum and they are not rare (found in autopsies from 0.6% to 15%). In the stomach it is primarily found in the prepyloric region along the greater curvature. A central mucosal repression is often seen at endoscopy. Ectopic pancreases do not usually cause any symptoms and pancreatic malignancy in an ectopic pancreas is extremely rare - about 10 cases have been describet in the medical litterature. Synonyms are aberrant pancreas or accessory pancreas.
