This quite old man had suffered from lower abdominal and anorectal pain for about two years. He was found to have a prostate cancer, a disease which is getting more and more common also in our country. The prostate-specific antigen was highly elevated and went down to normal after orchiectomy. The pain did not however go away, and he also had a slight diarrhea - however he had never seen any blood in his stools. This is the sigmoideoscopic finding in the distal rectum. What is this finding?

Answer:

    A Rectal Cancer (Adenocarcinoma).

It could have been the prostate cancer infliltrating the rectum, but that would supposedly be a very rare event, and the prostate cancer was well treated and under control.
