And so the autumn is here, and with it the September endoscopy quiz.
This old gentleman came to an upper endoscopy because of some dyspeptic symptoms. The endoscopy showed nothing abnormal except for this finding in the upper third of the oesophagus. He had no sign of any liver disease. What is this finding?
Answer
Oesophageal Pseudovarices
This is a quite common and innocent finding in elderly people, and no treatment is needed. However, this could have been Downhill varices. This patient did not have any sign of a disease that could disturb the superior vena cava circulation.
