This middle-aged man was examined because of anaemia. His oesophagus and cardia were normal, and so was the upper part of his stomach. However, it was quite impossible to bring the endoscope into the antrum, which thus could not be examined. An x-ray-examination was made, and this is the result. What disease does he have?
Answer
A large paraoesophageal hernia. The patient did not have any dysphagia and no other treatment than expectation was needed. The anaemia cured itself spontaneously and we are not sure, if the paraoesophageal hernia can explain the patients anaemia.
