This lady in her late middle age had suffered from fever and a sligth diarrhea for several months. Her erythrocyte sedimentation rate was very high. This is the only positive finding in an extensive work-up, these colonoscopic images show the caecal region. The fourth image shows the ileocaecal valve. This disease, quite easily cured by medical treatment - what is it? And, no - it is not Crohns disease!
Answer
Caecal Tuberculosis
This was not an easy case and in the Scandinavian countries this disease is quite rare nowadays. Other infections, such as yersinia enterocolitis, could have been a possible diagnosis. One would suppose that a yersinia infection should have resolved during the months she had suffered from this disease, and during which time she had received several antibiotic treatments.
