This middle aged lady came to a colonoscopy because of intermittent diarrhea and obstipation. This is the finding in her caecum. What are these small round red-brown lesions in the caecal mucosa especially seen around the appendix?
We are quite sure these lesions have a name, although we haven´t found any in the medical litterature, so Your answers, well, we wait for them with quite a lot of interest!
Answer:
Caecum, a normal endoscopic finding.
These small mucosal red-brown spots can be seen around the appendix aperture quite often, and we do not consider these as any pathological finding. They probably represent some follicular lymphoid hyperplasy. But what should we call these? Red ring sign? Peyer´s plaques? bunch of grapes caecum? Malakoplakia? If anyone knows for sure, please send an email!
