This lady in her thirthies had seen some blood in her stools for several years from time to time, every day during the last four months. This is the finding in the rectum - the sigmoid colon was quite normal as was the rest of the large bowel. What is this typical finding?

Answer

    Rectal Ulcerative Colitis

    One can argue that this is a normal ulcerative proctitis. In this case all of the rectum was affected. Ulcerative proctitis usually affects only the distal half. The ulcerations are also a bit more prominent than in a typical ulcerative proctitis. And it could be Crohn´s disease, some of the ulcers are linear. However, the background mucosa is also clearly affected. But it is possible, the future will tell.
