This lady came to a colonoscopy as she had suffered from obstipation and some stomach pain. Her laboratory values were excellent, and she had never had any blood in her stools. The examination was performed after a bowel emptying with a sodium phosphate preparation. The findings was otherwise normal but in the sigmoid colon and descending part of the colon these aphthous small lesions were found. What are these lesions?
Answer:
Aphtous Ulcerations Caused by Sodium Phosphate Bowel Preparation.
This is an innocent finding, typically caused by a sodpium phosphate preparation of the large bowel before a colonoscopy. It will resolve without any treatment in a few days. There is an important problem with this finding though: it might resembel Crohn´s disease and cause an uncorrect diagnosis.
