This lady was examined because of dermatomyositis, in order to exclude malignancy in the stomach. This
impressive mucosal pattern was found in the antrum. The finding does not have much clinical significance.
What is it?
Answer:
Intestinal metaplasia in the antrum. This finding does not have much clinical significance. It is however a
marker in atrophic gastritis, and it is seen very often - however not as clearly as in these pictures - in elderly
people when carefully looked for.
