Barretīs oesophagus - gastric metaplasia in the lower part of the oesphagus, resulting from a longstanding reflux disease - can be very short, only a few centimeters. In the two first pictures, a short Barret is seen. The third picture shows the reason for the reflux, a hiatal hernia.

A "short segment" Barret is probably not a risk factor for malignancy as great as when the metaplasia covers a great part ot the oesophagus.
