Oesophageal Varices caused by Liver Metastases

As in liver cirrhosis, the portal pressure can be elevated also in a metastatic liver disease, causing dilatiation of the oesophageal weins.

This patient has a carcinoma of the mammae and disseminated metastasis of her liver.

This is of couse a very serious finding, however, these dilatated weins do not usually bleed, as in liver cirrhoses due to other reasons.
