Normal Findings in Endoscopy:
Oesophagus

The oesophagus is a 20 - 26 cm long "tube" with a diameter between 2 and 3 cm.

The cervical part of the oesophagus is 4 - 5 cm long. The trachea is situated anteriorly and the spine posteriorly. The thoracic part is posterior to the trachea, then crosses anterior to the aorta and passes through the diaphragm at the level of Th 10.


The abdominal part of the oesophagus is very short, 0.5 - 2 cm long.
