Cancer of the Bile Ducts

Cancer of the Bile Ducts is a rare but serious disease. In Finland, the most frequent cause of this disease is probably extensive ulcerative colitis, and the course of the cancer is not influenced by the successful treatment of the colitis (by e.g. colectomy). In this picture, a tumour (T) in the bile duct is seen, with dilated bile ducts proximallu (PC) and a gracile bile duct distally (DC) between the tumour and Papilla Vater (P)

The passage of the bile is secured by a stent (S). In Japan and China, this disease can be caused by a parasite infection with Clonorchis sinensis.

Cancer of the bile duct is a serious disease, often disseminated when diagnosed. In this MRI-examination, ascites (A) caused by a bile duct carcinoma is seen L = Liver.
